<p>A golf trolley wheel includes an electric motor (18) within the wheel body (32) and mounted on spindle (10) so as to rotate the wheel when energised. The electric motor (18) is energised from a battery (not shown) which may be mounted on the golf trolley or within body (32) of the wheel, by way of a tilt switch (not shown) upon the trolley being tilted for moving, with the result that belt (40) is driven in the direction of arrow (52) and friction roller (45) turns the wheel. The frictional engagement between the roller (45) and the body (32) is increased by reason of the roller (45) carried by carrier plate (26), which is pivotally mounted on sleeve (10) by hinge (20), being pressed progressively more firmly against the body (32) due to pivoting of the plate (26) about the hinge's axis. This arrangement provides a "freewheel" action, if the trolley should be pushed faster than it would be driven by the motor (18) or if the battery should become exhausted. The wheel body may incorporate a rechargable battery so that the whole wheel is removed for battery recharging. Both trolley wheels may be driven. <IMAGE></p> |
