The paving block (4, 5) for level crossings is made of a rigid expanded synthetic material. Incorporated into the block (4, 5) is a plurality of light longitudinal reinforcement beams (17, 22) which occupy the greater part of the volume of the block. The length of these beams (17, 22) is slightly shorter than the length or the width of the block (4, 5). The block has properties of lightness, strength and stability which are greater than those of blocks of rubber. <IMAGE>
