PURPOSE:To obtain excellent picture quality by finishing the surface of a developer carrier to proper surface roughness and polishing the surface of this developer carrier by electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a sleeve 1 made of stainless is finished by sand blast to 2.5mum mean surface roughness Rz (figure (a)) and then polished by electrolysis to obtain surface roughness in a shape shown in figure (b). Namely, the mean surface roughness does not vary much and projection parts on the surface are dissolved preferentially by the electrolytic polishing to obtain a smooth surface, thereby maintaining the proper surface roughness Rz of about 2.0mum. Consequently, the congestion of an electric field at a local projection part on the surface of the developer carrier is dispersed and a bias is prevented from being leaking between a photosensitive body and the developer carrier, so that a stable image is obtained in a pressure-reduced atmosphere. |
