摘要 PURPOSE:To sufficiently cool the electrode part by a feeding liquid propellant by forming the arc-jet electrode of a propulsion apparatus into a capillary structure. CONSTITUTION:An arc jet 2 is constituted of a positive-electrode body 10 having a nozzle part 7 and an annular arc-generating part 9 having a nozzle 8 in the innermost part of the nozzle part 7, and a negative-electrode side arc-generatig part 13 inserted through an insulator 13, and the both arc-generating parts 9 and 13 are constituted of a capillary structure made of heat resisting material such as porous wolfram, linear wolfram, etc. Liquid propellant such as liquid hydrazine is supplied from a vacant space 15 and a concaved place 16, and then, in the gas jetted-out by cooling the both arc-generating parts 9 and 13, electric- discharge is generated between the both arc-generating parts 9 and 13, and the temperature is raised. When operation is to be started, gas is supplied from a gaseous-propellant feeding line 23, and when the both arc-generating parts 9 and 13 are heated, switching is performed.
