PURPOSE:To improve resolving capacity, by consecutive scanning by a means which opens and closes in the specified order shutter elements arranged in an opposed manner of existence of transmitting light of each slit zone of a code disk and allowing a semiconductor position detecting element to read the results out. CONSTITUTION:A light receiving unit is constructed of a semiconductor position detecting element 14 feeding out a voltage proportional to a light receiving position. And, between this element 14 and a code disk 8, an electronic shutter array 12 is installed and the encoder is so constructed that existence of transmitted light beams of slit zones 1, 2...n is scanned by a means of opening and closing in the specified order shutter elements LS1-LSn+1 positioned in an opposed manner to each slit zone 1, 2...n of the electronic shutter array 12. |
