PURPOSE:To improve the yield of a plate gel without deteriorating the quality, by applying centrifugal force to a sol solution, separating the supernatant liquid from settled silica having a large particle diameter, and allowing the sol solution to stand for gelling. CONSTITUTION:A sol solution prepared from an alkali silicate and ultrafine powder silica as main raw materials is centrifuged to undissolved lumps of the ultrafine powder silica, and the ultrafine powder silica is uniformly dispersed to give a sol solution, which is adjusted to a pH within 3-6 range, and gelatinized to produce quartz glass. In the process, centrifugal force is applied to the sol solution, and the container containing the sol solution is made upside down to separate the supernatant liquid from the settled silica having a large particle diameter and allowed to stand for gelling. |
