PURPOSE:To perform quick drying by heating without generating temper color by selecting retention time of steel sheet decided depending upon the temp. in the neighborhood of the transporting area of the steel sheet, etc. and the transporting speed within a range causing no coloration of the surface of the sheet. CONSTITUTION:The temp. in a drying furnace 11, particularly near the surface of a steel sheet is set at 150 deg.C-ca.300 deg.C in accordance with a signal from a transporting speed detector 13 by a temp. setting mechanism 12. The transportation mechanism transports with a transportation speed permitting no coloration of the surface due to oxidation by heating during the retention time in the drying furnace 11. By this constitution, the reten-time is shortened and the heat treating time is saved.
