PURPOSE:To provide the titled paint which has excellent storage stability and interlaminar adhesion between a metallic base coating film and a topcoating transparent film and gives a coating film having good appearance, resistance to water and weather, etc., by using a specified modified vinyl copolymer as a vehicle component. CONSTITUTION:5-40wt% cellulose acetate butyrate having a degree of acetylation of 1-34wt%, a butyl group content of 16-60wt% and a viscosity of 0.005- 5sec (ASTM-D-1343154) and 95-60wt% at least one vinyl monomer such as styrene are copolymerized in the presence of a radical polymn. initiator in a solvent such as benzene at 50-200 deg.C to obtain a modified vinyl copolymer. The copolymer is used as a vehicle, and an org. solvent, a metallic flake pigment, a color pigment, etc. are blended with said copolymer to obtain a paint.
