<p>PURPOSE:To obtain better sticking of methane fermentation bacteria group such as facultative anaerobic bacteria group, etc. and to improve generation of gaseous methane by causing methane fermentation using shells such as surf clam, scallop, ear shell, etc. as contact material. CONSTITUTION:Shells as they are or crushed to certain degree are charged to a methane fermentation tank, thereby the shells may be packed as it is to the fermentation tank or may by packed after wrapping with metallic net successively preventing scattering of individual pieces of the shell. Liquid to be treated such as night soil or excess sludge is mixed in the first place with a medium for cultivating seed for methane fermentation bacteria group, and the mixture is filled in a closed anaerobic tank packed with the shells. When the bacteria are cultured at 20-50 deg.C for ca. a week, groups of methane fermentation bacteria stick to the circumference of the shells to commence methane fermentation. The treated liquid is flowed continuously into the closed anaerobic tank portion- wise, and overflowed treated fermentation liquid is withdrawn.</p> |
