When forming a through hole (5) in a piece of material (2) a centred rotating hole-forming tool is fed into the hole (6) to a certain position in the hole, after which the hole-forming tool is brought into bound rotation in a course around the hole's centre line in order to carry out the hole formation process. Hole drilling and hole formation can be done using the same tool. The hole-forming tool (6) has a working device (9) which extends itself between one location on the periphery and a location inside of the periphery. The hole-formation tool is designed to be used together with a special chuck (30) which can set the hole-formation tool in a bound rotation.
