PURPOSE:To obtain an original reader with compactness and high resolution by using a lens array formed on an erected image with unmagnification of an original on a photodetecting sensor face. CONSTITUTION:A picture 20 on an original face is formed as an inverted image 21 with a cylindrical lens array 11 having a magnification of beta=-1/a (where a is a prescribed constant). Moreover, an erected unmagnification imapge 22 is formed on the photodetection sensor face by a cylindrical lens array 12 having a magnification of beta'=-a to the inverted image 21. Since the original and the photodetection sensor face are in the relation of erected and inverted image in this way, each unit of the photodetecting sensor is arranged with a high density independently of the arrangement of the lens arrays and the reading with high resolution is attained.
