PURPOSE:To manufacture a recording medium for vertical magnetic recording having excellent sliding property and magnetic characteristic without decreasing the magnetic characteristic by adding approximately uniformly carbon to a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer consists essentially of cobalt and is added with carbon thereto. If the carbon content exceeds 50atom%, all of a satd. magnetic flux density Bs, vertical anisotropic magnetic field intensity HK, the holding power HC1 in a vertical direction and the holding power HC11 in vertical direction tend to decrease and therefore the carbon content is restricted to an about 10-50atom% range. A Co-C alloy maintains always <=0.3 coefft. of dynamic friction even if the sliding distance increases and therefore the magnetic recording medium has good sliding property. |
