COMPACT-TYPE FLUORESCENT LAMP

PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a compact-type fluorescent lamp and enable its mass production by using a bar-like electrode as one of the electrodes of a double-U-shaped emission tube, providing the wall of the emission tube with a part which is located near the bar-like electrode and spatially connected to the outer tube globe and subjecting the lamp to d.c. lighting by using the bar-like electrode as an anode. CONSTITUTION:A double-U-shaped emission tube 1' the inner surface of which is coated with a phosphor contains an electrode 4' consisting of a bar-like nickel member and directly welded to a metallic base plate 10 in one end and a usual electrode 5 in the other end. After the emission tube 1' is installed in an outer tube globe 3 airtightly fused to a metallic base plate 10, the globe 3 is charged with mercury and argon gas thereby constituting a compact-type fluorescent lamp. The emission tube 1' has a connecting part 13 which is located near the electrode 4' and spatially connected to the outer tube globe 3. Lighting of the lamp is performed with a d.c. power supply 15 by using the electrode 4' as an anode and a resistance 14 as a stabilizer. Therefore it is possible to prevent any flickering which might occur due to cataphoresis. Besides it is also possible to achieve improved efficiency of mass production and to reduce the total weight of the lamp by simplifying the electrode 4.
