PURPOSE:To realize high-precision welding connections of optical fibers by supplying matching liquid to a coater which is movable to between optical fibers, and bringing the matching liquid at the coater side into contact with optical fiber end surfaces to apply just enough matching liquid to both optical fiber end surfaces. CONSTITUTION:The coater 5 having the tip dipped in a liquid tank 7 moves up by specific distance by the quantitative rotaion of a cam 6, part of the matching liquid 8 in the liquid tank 7 sticks on the projection 9 atop the coater and is carried in the same direction, and the matching liquid 9 sticking on the projection part 9 comes into contact with optical fiber end surfaces 4A and 4B. Then, the coater 5 moves down toward its original position by the cam rotation, and a specific amount of matching liquid 9 is left between both end surfaces 4A and 4B. Then, alignment is carried out to obtain the aligned state between optical fibers 1A and 1B, and then both optical end parts 3A and 3B are moved relatively in abutting directions and fusion heat is supplied from a specific machine to weld the end parts 3A and 3B together. |
