PURPOSE:To allow free change of a shutter speed by providing a shutter in the forehead of an photoelectric conversion image pick up means and controlling drives of the shutter and said means. CONSTITUTION:When a shutter switch 6 is turned on, a record timing signal and gate signal generating circuit 15 generates gate signals by the shutter signals from the shutter switch 6 as well as synchronizing signals from a synchronizing signal generating circuit 4. This gate signal gates the driver output signals from a driver 5 by a gate circuit 14, and is converted into opening/closing signals from a optical shutter 13 and drive signals from a solid image pick up element 2. The time when this shutter opening/closing signals start up becomes a shutter speed. Control of the drives of the shutter 13 and the element 2 enables free setting of time for accumulating charges of the element 2, thereby allowing free shutter speeds.
