PURPOSE:To save the energy required for rolling by dividing plural rolling mills into three stages to perform a high draft rolling till a prescribed thickness, an adjustment to a final target crown at the middle stage, and a finish rolling to a desired cross-sectional shape at the rear stage. CONSTITUTION:Tandem mills F1-F7 are divided into the mills F1-F3 at the front stage, the mills F4, F5 at the middle stage, and the mills F6, F7 at the rear stage. Both work rolls 1, 2 of the mills at the front stage A, having large diameters, are driven to roll a rolling material W under a high draft and a large rolling reduction. Further, the rolls 1, 2 are provided with a crown control to roll the material W into a prescribed thickness. The work rolls 9 of the mills B at the middle stage, smaller in diameter than the rolls 7, perform the high draft rolling within a prescribed temperature range; the work rolls 15 of the mills C at the rear stage, having further smaller diameters, adjust the shape of material W to a final cross-sectional shape by using intermediate rolls 19, to improve the dimensional accuracy of material W as well as to save the energy required for rolling. |
