PURPOSE:The titled viscosity reducing agent, consisting of a specific alkylene oxide adduct (derivative) with a specific aliphatic aldehyde condensate, and capable of reducing the viscosity of a coal-water slurry and improving the fluidity and stability thereof. CONSTITUTION:A viscosity reducing agent consisting of a polyether compound (containing ethylene oxide as an alkylene oxide as an essential component with 30-100wt% content thereof based on the total alkylene oxide) obtained by adding (B) an alkylene oxide to (A) an aliphatic aldehyde condensate prepared by condensing (i) a monocyclic aromatic hydroxy compound and (ii) a monocyclic aromatic compound with (iii) an aliphatic aldehyde or a combined polyether compound (having 6,000-600,000mol.wt.) prepared by two molecules or more of the polyether compound with a binder or a derivative obtained by reacting terminal hydroxy groups of the (combined) polyether compound as an essential component.
