Novel halogenated dicarboxylic acid esters are of formula A -CH2-CX=CHX 2 (I) where X is halogen, pref. Cl, and A is-OOC-R-COO-, where R is an aromatic gp. (I) are plasticisers for PVC, PVdC or copolymer of these with other monomer, and are used in amts. of 1-150 wt. % based on polymer. The plasticised compsns. may be used eg for insulating electric cables, in sulpho etc. besides having flame resistance which may even be superior to similar compsn. contg. phosphate esters, the present componsn also have physico-mechanical props. comparable with the phosphate-plasticised compsns. (I) may be obtd. by reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (or its anhydride or halide) with a cpd. HO-CH2-CX=CHX. or by reacting a metal salt of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid with X-CH2-CH=CHX. |
