PURPOSE:To increase yield for a useful silicon hydride compound such as monosilane and disilane by performing the following reaction in the presence of hydrocarbons in the manufacture wherein an alloy contg. silicon is allowed to react with an aq. soln. of acid to produce the silicon hydride. CONSTITUTION:(halogenated) Hydrocarbon (e.g. butane, cyclohexane, benzene and trifluorotrichloroethane) having about -30-100 deg.C b.p. is used. Namely, (A) an alloy contg. silicon (e.g. Mg2Si having about 20-300 mesh grain size) and (B) an aq. soln. (about 1-50wt% concn.) of acid (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid) are mixed and caused to react in the presence of (C) above-mentioned hydrocarbons. Further, since said reaction is an extremely extensive exothermic reaction, a reflux condenser is attached to the upper part of a reactor and said reaction temp. is controlled preferably by heating the hydrocarbons under reflux.
