PURPOSE:To recover magnesium sulphate economically without condensing an aq. soln. of magnesium sulphate substantially by mixing potassium chloride with said aq. soln. and precipitating potassium magnesia. CONSTITUTION:Aq. magnesium sulphate soln. (about >=10wt% concn.) is supplied from a pipe 5 and about 0.8-1mol potassium chloride per 1mol magnesium sulphate is supplied from a pipe 6 to a reactor 1 respectively and both are allowed to react with each other at room temp. - about 80 deg.C and for 5min - about 2hr while maintaining the suspension state with a stirrer 4 to separate potassium magnesia. Next, the reacted suspension is transferred to a separator 2 and washed with a washing soln. introduced from a pipe 8 (a mark 9 shows a drawing-out pipe of washing soln.) and the solid component is filtered and sent to a dryer 3 and subjected to hot-air drying at about 100-800 deg.C. The obtained potassium magnesia can be utilized effectively as a single fertilizer or raw materials of compound fertilizer.
