PURPOSE:A precursor useful commonly for the prepn. of parent materials for optical fiber each designed to have different designed value comprising a central core layer and a clad layer surrounding the core layer wherein the thickness of said clad layer is regulated to a specified percentage of the thickness of the clad layer required for the parent material for optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A precursor for parent materials for optical fiber comprising a central core layer and a clad layer surrounding the core layer wherein the thickness of the clad layer is 3-80% basing on the thickness of a clad layer required for the parent material for optical fiber. The precursor provides following advantages: (1): the precursor can provide easily a parent material for optical fiber having exactly controlled diameter of core-clad when it is vitrified by heaping specified amt. of soot for clad corresponding to the diameter of core-clad of a target optical fiber, (2): the precursor can be commonly used for the prepn. of parent material for optical fiber of optional design, (3); not so severe caution in handling as compared to conventional precursor comprising a core alone is demanded because the precursor is covered by a clad layer, with resulting convenience in delivery or transportation to the succeeding stage. |
