PURPOSE:To manufacture Ni powder from industrial waste at a low cost by adding an acid to sludge contg. Ni to dissolve the Ni and by adding powder of shavings of Al or Zn which is baser than Ni to the resulting acidic soln. contg. Ni ions. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. of hydrogen chloride, sulfuric acid, nitric acid or acetic acid having >=0.1N acid concn. is added to waste liquor contg. Ni ions produced in an Ni plating stage or sludge contg. Ni to dissolve the Ni, and the resulting acidic aqueous soln. contg. Ni ions adjusted to <=5pH is used as a starting material. The aqueous soln. contg. Ni ions is heated to 60-100 deg.C, and powder of a metal which is baser than Ni such as Al or Zn powder produced by polishing or grinding work is added to the soln. to deposit the Ni ions in the soln. as powdery Ni by reduction. Since not only the starting material contg. Ni ions but also the Al or Zn powder is industrial waste, Ni powder can be manufactured at a very low cost.
