Apparatus for the treatment of a fluid containing hydrocarbons or their derivatives or carbon monoxide at elevated temperatures, resisting carbon deposition. According to the invention at least one member of the said apparatus exposed to this fluid at elevated temperature is obtained by forming a layer with a high aluminium content by aluminising or the like on the surface of a base alloy containing Al in a quantity of 1.0-5.0 % by weight. Applications: the invention applies to ethylene production units, delayed coking units, styrene production units, alkylbenzene dealkylation units and synthesis gas production units.
