PURPOSE:To obtain a porous carbon plate having gas impermeable layers in the end portions by stacking a larger number of prepregs in the end portions than in the porous portion. CONSTITUTION:A necessary number of resin-impregnated carbon fiber sheets 6 used to form a porous section and a necessary number of sheets 5 made of the same material as the sheets 6 and used to form gas impermeable sections are alternately stacked before heating is performed while applying pressure, thereby making a porous carbon plate. By the means mentioned above, the porous section and the gas impermeable sections can be formed in one step. Therefore the manufacturing can be performed in a smaller number of steps compared to the conventional method in which sacklike sheets are attached to the gas impermeable sections or they are impregnated with a paint or a resin. Furthermore, a usual stacking method can be applied and a porous carbon plate of necessary characteristics can be easily manufactured by controlling the number of sheets stacked and the amount of a resin used to impregnate the sheets. |
