<??>The essence of the invention is that a capacitor (4), which is connected in series with a resistor (2), is connected in parallel with the terminals (1) of an AC voltage source, a first semiconductor switching element (5), which is connected in series with the primary winding (6) (which is constructed with a small number of turns) of a transformer, is furthermore connected in parallel with the capacitor (4), the control electrode of which first semiconductor switching element (5) is passed via a series circuit (which is constructed with a second semiconductor switching element (11) and a second resistor (10)), to the common point of the resistor (2) and the capacitor (4). The primary winding (6) of the transformer is wound on an iron-powder core and is DC isolated from, and maintained at a distance from, the high-voltage secondary winding (8) which is supported in an insulating compound.
