PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of data in picture element reading operation to a half as large as that in recording operation without causing deterioration in picture quality by sampling picture elements on main scanning lines during the reading operation so that the sampling point shifts on every other main scanning line by one picture element in the main scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:The main scanning direction is shown by M and the subscanning direction is by S; and respective main scanning lines are denoted as l1, l2, l3..., and sampling positions in the main scanning lines are indicated by A and B. When picture element data on the main scanning lines l1, l2, l3... are read from an original picture O, the positions B (marked with dotted circles) where picture element data is not read are shifted by one sampling position alternately to execute a readout scan, and the picture element data are read only at the sampling positions A indicated with solid circles. Consequently, the amount of data in picture element reading operation is reduced to a half as large as that in recording operation. |
