A device for mixing a fluid additive into material flowing in a pipeline (20) comprises a cylinder (3) in which a piston (2) defines a swept volume (19) accommodating the additive. The swept volume (19) is connected via a constricted passage (8) to a pipeline end (22) situated downstream of an orifice (1), whilst the underside of the piston (2) is connected to a pipeline section situated upstream of the orifice (1). On account of the pressure difference thus produced in the pipeline, the additive is mixed via the passage (8) into the flow of material in the pipeline (20). <IMAGE>
