The electric arc resistance furnace is used for continuously melting mineral raw materials, in particular basalt. It consists of a hearth plate, a trough with at least one discharge opening and at least one discharge channel, a covering vault and electrodes with a supply circuit and cooling system. The ratio of the cross-sectional area of the electrodes to the base area of the trough at the height of the discharge channel corresponds to a numerical value of at least 1:10. The height of the trough corresponds at least to three times the value of the diameter of the electrodes. The trough has more than one discharge opening, at least one of which is always open. <IMAGE>
