A packaging machine (1) has support strips (5) for guiding and/or supporting a web of material (4), which supporting strips (5) can be retracted from an operating position into a rest position. The support strips (5) are borne by beams (7) which are rotatably mounted on a shaft (10). The shaft (10) has appropriately arranged adjusting springs (15) which can be made to engage with grooves (14) of the beams (7). Adjusting springs (15) can be selectively made to engage with a particular groove (14) of the beams (7) by means of axial displacement of the shaft (10). Rotation of the shaft (10) can therefore selectively move specific beams (7) and therefore specific strips (5) into their operating and/or rest positions. <IMAGE>
