1. Process for a leak-tight closing and opening of a container-plug assembly for irradiated nuclear fuel, the container having an opening the upper edge of which has at least one cylindrical inner face, and the plug having a cylindrical outer face cooperating with the said inner face of the container opening, characterised in that the closure is produced by heat-shrinking the upper edge of the container opening over the plug and that the opening is produced by rapid heating of the upper edge of the container opening followed by withdrawal of the plug.
