PURPOSE:To check for an unknown branch pipe by passing a linear examining body through the entire length of a gas pipe portion to react with a gas being conveyed within the branch pipe. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a gas pipe portion 1a to be examined are cut off by excavating and cutting. A purging gas feeder 4 is connected to the gas pipe portion 1a suspended in the conveyance of gas and a known branch pipe 2a to discharge the gas by blowing a different purging gas thereinto. Then, a linear examining body 6 with a reagent carried along the entire length thereof is forced with a blower 8 having a parachute-shaped tractor connected at the tip thereof through the entire length of the gas pipe portion. Thereafter, the examining body 6 is pulled out and then, the reagent is checked for portion having color changes or the like generated in reaction with the gas conveyed to determine whether or not a unknown branch pipe exists. |
