A surface-finish testing instrument has a housing in which an electrical supply and evaluation unit is installed. The latter is connected via a cable to a feed device from which there projects a probe arm which is provided at its end with a prod and can be moved by the feed device. The special feature resides in that the housing is constructed as the foot of a stand on which the feed device can be mounted. In this way, a special stand can be eliminated, resulting in a particularly simple, small and easy-to-handle instrument. <IMAGE>
