Method for producing a metallic composite object in which a surface area consisting of a basic metallic material, of a base body is completely connected to a plating material. In order to be able to plate the base body even with a largely homogenous thin layer of freely selectable composition, the plating material is placed in a sheet metal cap which is adapted to the surface area to be plated and to the adjacent area, surrounding the said area, of the base body and overlaps this adjacent area. After the pressing-on of the plating material and sheet metal cap against the base body, the said sheet metal cap is evacuated and electron-beam welded to the base body in the vacuum, after which base body, plating material and sheet metal cap are hot-isostatically pressed. After the removal of the sheet metal cap, the desired plated base body is produced.
