The application relates to a drive for a single-arm window wiper for motor vehicles, having a wiper blade which is mounted so as to be displaceable in a swivellable housing and to be variable in terms of its effective length during operation. In order to ensure a quiet, jolt-free and maintenance-free operation, according to the invention there is provision for the transmission of the swivel movement from the wiper motor to the housing to take place via a first crank drive which is coupled on the wiper motor side to a crown gear or a chain wheel and for a pinion which is mounted on the same axis as the housing to be driven by the crown gear or the chain wheel via a toothed belt or a roller chain, the axle of said pinion being connected via a second crank drive to the wiper blade which can be extended and retracted.
