The o-hydroxyphenyloxycarbonyl radical, a novel amino protective group for amino acids, amino acid derivatives, peptides and peptide derivatives

The o-hydroxyphenyloxycarbonyl radical represents a novel amino protective group which can be introduced smoothly into amino acids and derivatives thereof by means of pryocatechol carbonate, an introduction reagent accessible on an industrial scale. This amino protective group is removed selectively in the presence of amino protective groups of the benzyl and tert.-butylurethane type as well as tert.-butyl ethers and tert.-butyl esters by means of hydrogen peroxide in dioxane at an apparent pH of 10-11. Vice versa, protective groups of the benzyl and tert.-butyl type can be eliminated selectively in the presence of the o-hydroxyphenyloxycarbonyl protective group.
