An apparatus is proposed which enables wood, such as boards, planks, or the like, to be cut off and subsequently machined, e.g. trimmed, and for this purpose has a transverse conveyor, at least one cross-cut end-trimming tool arranged in the course of the transverse conveyor, an aligning table behind that with aligning units interacting in pairs, and following that a longitudinal conveyor leading to the cutting machine. In the known apparatuses of this generic type, the several wood sections obtained from a piece of wood by cutting off are successively put onto the aligning table and aligned. This involves a relatively high construction cost with considerable space requirement between the cross-cut end-trimming tool and the aligning table and also leads to a slow mode of operation and thus unsatisfactory working capacity. These disadvantages are rectified according to the invention owing to the fact that the aligning table 22 has a pair of aligning units 24 in each case on either side of each cutting plane S of a cross-cut end-trimming tool 23, and the wood sections 21a, 21b aligned by the individual aligning units 24 can be transported away in succession by means of the longitudinal conveyor 27 at predeterminable intervals. <IMAGE>
