Fire-proof polyester fiber, having the formula (I), is prepared by copolymerization with the addition of phosphorus of 500-15,000 ppm where R1, R4 = H or C1-C6 alkyl; A1, A2 = -O- or -COO-R2 ; R3 = C2 - C20 organic divalence gp.; R5 = alkyl or aryl with or without any substitution gp.; and n = 0 or 1. A suitable carboxylic acid for polyester manufacturing is terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, or their derivatives.
