PURPOSE:To obtain an active material capable of improving the utilization efficiency of electric energy by mixing and kneading lead powder or lead oxide essentially not containing bound water and lead oxide powder essentially containing bound water. CONSTITUTION:When alkali, e.g., caustic soda or caustic potash, is added to an aqueous solution of lead salt, PbO.H2O is obtained as a hydrate oxide by hydrolysis. When forming paste, the mixing ratio of lead powder A not containing bound water and lead oxide powder B containing bound water is preferably within a range of 85-15wt%: 15-85wt%. The mixing ratio near 50:50wt% is more preferably excellent in increasing the capacity. When a thallium component and a bismuth component are added to the mixture of the lead powder A and lead oxide powder B, its battery performance as a negative electrode is further improved. |
