For the special ventilation of short faces, such as, for example, dams and the like, two air partition walls arranged at a distance from one another and passing continuously along the short face are arranged according to the invention on the self-advancing support assemblies of the short face so that a fresh-air channel via which the fresh air is supplied is formed between these air partition walls. The air partition walls can be provided with butterfly valves or the like for the proportioned feeding of the fresh air towards the working face or towards the goaf. The air partition walls are attached to slide bars of the support assemblies, specifically the face-side air partition wall to front extension bars and the goaf-side air partition wall to rear extension bars of the support assemblies.
