PURPOSE:A thermoplastic polyester is melt-extruded, allowed to run through a heating zone where a hot gas is introduced through a specific straightening filter and heat drawing is effected, then the yarn is wound up to give the titled fiber of good mechanical properties and good uniformily. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate is melt extruded through the spinneret into a yarn Y, which is cooled down with air beneath its glass transition point. Then, the cooled yarn Y is allowed to run through the heating zone in the cylinder 1 where stream-straightening filters 4 satisfying equation I (X is absolute filtration diameter) and equation II (L is the length of straightening filter) are arranged so that they surround the yarn path and hot fluide of inert gas is introduced through the filters at a flow rate of 10-80Nl/min to effect non-contact heat drawing. The resultant yarn is taken up at a speed higher than 3,000m/min to give the objective fiber.
