NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> is 5-10C straight, branched or cyclic alkyl or alkenyl; R<2> and R<3> are H or OH-protecting group; R<4> is H or alkyl). EXAMPLE:3-( 4'-Carboxy-1'-butenyl-6( R )-[3'( S )-hydroxy-1'-trans-octenyl]-7(R)-hydroxy-(1S,5S)-cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]oct -2-ene. USE:Intermediate for the synthesis of 9(0)-methano-DELTA<6(9alpha)>-PGI1 useful as a remedy or preventive for circulatory diseases. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by (1) introducing methylene group to the allylcyclopentanone derivative of formula II, (2) hydrating the resultant allylcyclopentylidene derivative of formula III, (3) oxidizing and dehydrating the obtained hydroxymethylcyclopentane derivative of formula VI, and (4) reacting the product with 3-carboxypropylphosphonium bromide.
