A flocculating agent is produced by growing a microorganism, e.g. a strain of pseudomonas, in continuous or batch culture under controlled conditions, and the microorganism thus cultured is allowed or caused to undergo controlled lysis naturally or artificially using heat or a chemical lysing agent. The exent of the lysis is controlled to optimise the production rate and quality of the product agent which may then be stored for use in industrial applications such as water treatment and paper production.
|
