PURPOSE:To obtain an easily water-soluble hinokitiol having antibacterial and antifungal activities, by dispersing hinokitiol homogeneously in an extremely easily water-soluble crystal of an inorganic acid or organic acid alkali metal salt having water of crystallization. CONSTITUTION:(A) A solution of hinokitiol or its complex salt in an organic solvent (preferably a good solvent of hinokitiol and miscible freely with water, e.g. alcohol, acetone, etc.) is mixed with (B) less than a specific amount of water and (C) a salt obtained by removing the water of crystallization partially or completely from an easily water-soluble inorganic acid or organic acid alkali metal salt having water of crystallization bonded thereto. The solvent is removed from the mixture to obtain a water-soluble honokitiol preparation uniformly containing hinokitiol. The sum of component (B) and the water of crystallization in the alkali metal salt is preferably about <=3 times the total amount of the holdable water of crystallization.
