PURPOSE:To shorten the editing time and to prevent the double registration in case plural retrieval codes are given to a single piece of picture information for editing and storage by editing the picture information and the retrieval data independently from each other in an editing mode. CONSTITUTION:When an editing start indication is given from a keyboard 23, a CPU12 stores all picture information to an optical disk 192 excluding those to which the deletion code of an optical disk 191 is given. While a retrieval code is read out of a magnetic disk 28 and stored in a main memory 13. Then the CPU12 checks whether the deletion code is stored in a deletion code storage area and then read out the next retrieval code out of the storage area when the deletion code is stored. While the contents of a picture number area are replaced with the picture numbers of the disk 192 when no deletion code is stored. Other retrieval codes are also stored to the storage area, and all retrieval codes are stored to the storage area excluding those to which the deletion codes of the storage area are given. Thus an editing action is through.
