PURPOSE:To prevent the easy forgery of an IC card and to ensure the assured identification by using an ID card which delivers a prescribed optical signal to a specific optical signal and discriminating a correct IC card from the conbination of input and output signals. CONSTITUTION:An ID card 1 inserted through a slit is sent into the main body of a card reader, and a photodetecting part 2 and a light emitting part 3 of the card 1 are set opposite to a light emitting element 28 and a photodetecting element 29 respectively. Then a CPU25 drives the element 28 to emit the red light. This light is led to photodetecting elements 9-11. Then an electric signal is delivered from the element 9 and the prescribed voltage is produced from a voltage generation source 12. While a color detecting circuit 15 detects the red signal and impresses the voltage of the source 12 to a light emitting element 16. Thus the light is converted into electric signals by the element 29 and sent to the CPU25. As a result, it is decided that the card 1 is correct when the blue signal is supplied to the CPU25. Then a driver 30 is driven to turn on a display device 23. Thus the correct card 1 is confirmed.
