PURPOSE:To protect a photosensitive body against ozone, etc., produced in discharging operation and hold copy quality excellent, and prolong the life of the photosensitive body by coating the photosensitive body with a thin film of electric insulating oil having low viscosity prior to the discharging operation. CONSTITUTION:When copying operation is performed repeatedly, ozone produced in the discharging of an electrostatic charger 3 causes the photosensitive body 2 to deteriorate and moisture absorption occurs to deteriorate charging characteristics, exposure characteristics, and other copy characteristics, lowering image quality. An oil coating device 9 is provided at the upstream position of the charger 3 so as to evade the photosensitive body deterioration, and the surface of the photosensitive body 2 before the charging operation is coated with a thin film of transparent oil which has watertightness and provides electric insulation. Consequently, the photosensitive body 2 itself is protected by the oil film and affected by neither ozone nor moisture absorption, and the oil film is transparent, so copy quality is held excellent without any deterioration in charging characteristics. |
