APPARATUS FOR COMPACTING BIO-DELETERIOUS WASTES

To reduce the volume of solid bio-deleterious, particularly radioactive, wastes in closed metal containers installations comprising a closed containment with roller conveyers and other transport elements, a container delivery mechanism and a container removal device are used. A compacting apparatus which can be handled particularly safely comprises a container delivery mechanism rotatable about a vertical axis and having a hydraulic cylinder for transporting the metal containers into a high-pressure press and a hydraulic cylinder for ejecting the deformed containers, and a displaceable gripping element for the transport of the deformed metal containers to the container removal device.
