PURPOSE:To coat securely and uniformly a liquid on both surfaces of a long- sized material by providing a lower roller so that the roller may be immersed in the lubricating oil in a liquid vessel, and passing a coating member between the lower and an upper roller whose circumferential surfaces are brought into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating oil in a tank 16 is supplied by the operation of a pump 14 into a liquid vessel 11 to keep always a fixed liquid level. And a part of the coating member 9c of a lower roller 9 in the circumferential direction is always immersed in the lubricating oil. Under said conditions, when a long-sized band plate-shaped material is sent in one direction, an upper roller 8 and the lower roller 9 are reciprocally rotated, and the coating member 9c of the lower roller 9 is successively immersed in the lubricating oil. The whole circumferential surface of the member 9c is infiltrated with the lubricating oil in this way. The lubricating oil is coated on the lower surface of the material A when the oil is brought into contact with the lower surface. Since the oil is simultaneously adhered to the coating member 8c of the upper roller 8 and infiltrated into the member 8c, the upper surface of the material A is coated with the oil from the coating member 8c due to the infiltrating force of the oil.
