PURPOSE:A star-shaped polyether prepolymer, obtained by reacting a star-shaped polyoxyalkylene with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam, and capable of being a star block copolymers having various sizes and shapes and high impact and heat resistance. CONSTITUTION:A star-shaped polyether prepolymer expressed by formula I (R<1> is tri- or polyvalent polyhydric alcohol residue or polyfunctional amino compound residue having 3 or more H atoms bonded to N atom; R<2> and R<3> are aliphatic hydrocarbon residue; n is a natural number; p is an integer >=3). The above- mentioned prepolymer is obtained by reacting a star-shaped polyoxyalkylene, expressed by formula II, and having terminal 3 or more hydroxy groups with an N-chlorocarbonyllactam expressed by formula III. The star-shaped polyoxyalkylene has preferably 500-20,000 number-average molecular weight and 3 or more branches. N-chlorocarbonylcaprolactam etc., may be used as the above- mentioned lactam.
