PURPOSE:To prompt start of a reverse osmotic apparatus having a membrane module sealed with aq. HCHO soln. by injecting NaHSO3 soln. into a pipe for liquid passage at the start of operation and removing the toxicity of HCHO chemically. CONSTITUTION:Membrane in a reverse osmotic apparatus is protected from bacteria and microorganisms by injecting aq. sealing soln. of HCHO into a pipe 11 between a high pressure pump 10 and a membrane module 12 from a pipe 17 when the reverse osmotic apparatus is put in suspended state for a long time. At the resumption of operation, soln. of NaHSO3 is injected from a pipe 8 to the upstream side of the membrane module 12 and is allowed to react with the HCHO soln. contained in the inside. Further, the NaHSO3 soln. is injected also into an exhaust pipe 15 of concentrated water through a branch pipe 18. HCHO in the sealing liquid reacts with NaHSO3 and is stabilized and discharged through a pipe 16.
